The New Orleans Pelicans send JJ Redick to the Dallas Mavericks

The New Orleans pelicans agreed to trade JJ Redick for the Dallas Mavericks, avoiding a possible ransom for the game keeper.

Sources told ESPN that the pelicans sent Redick and Nicolo Melli to Dallas for strikers James Johnson and Wes Iwundu, as well as for a selection in the second round of 2021.

Redick has not played since March 3, as he is facing an injury to his right heel. After the All-Star break, Redick underwent a non-surgical procedure on the injury and has not been with the team since.

The 36-year-old has a career low of 36.4% in the 3-point range this season, but many of them are dealing with an unusually slow start. Redick shot 29.8% in the first 16 games of the season, but recorded 46.4% in the 15 games since then.

Redick has $ 13 million left on a two-year deal he signed with New Orleans in 2019.

New Orleans investigated the market for a possible transaction for Redick and avoided a situation in which Redick would have reached the purchase market by making a transaction at the last moment before the deadline.

Melli, who struggled to shoot pelicans this year, is in the final year of his contract.

Johnson is in the final year of his deal paying $ 15.8 million and offers the depth of the pelicans on the front field behind Steven Adams, Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez, while Iwundu offers the pelicans another option on the wing.
