The New Orleans Pelicans are not signing Isaiah Thomas for a second 10-day deal at this time, the source said.

Isaiah Thomas’ 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans has expired and the team has no immediate plans to sign him for a second deal, a source told ESPN on Tuesday morning.

However, Thomas could be in the pelicans’ plans at a later date.

New Orleans has two weeks before it needs to add another player to the roster – either on a 10-day contract or for the rest of the season. For luxury tax reasons, the team may choose to wait two weeks before adding a player. Recent injuries to goalkeepers Josh Hart (UCL broken in the right thumb) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (high sprain of the left ankle) could force the pelicans to go in a different direction once they make that signing.

On Monday, New Orleans added James Nunnally, a 6-foot-7 winger, in a two-way deal to help fill the gap.

Thomas played in three games with New Orleans, averaging 7.7 points. He received a standing ovation from fans when he checked out Monday’s victory over the Sacramento Kings – his only home game with New Orleans he played.

“I haven’t met a more grateful veteran guy for the opportunity to play in the league all my time in the league. He was incredible here,” Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy said after Monday’s game. “To see him come in, even for a few minutes, to make a shot, to receive the appreciation of the fans, I hope he heard it. You often don’t do that when you play there. I hope he heard I hope he liked it. Because it definitely deserved it.

“I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to train him even for a very short time.”

Following the game, Thomas took the field for about 25-30 minutes to get extra shots before retiring to the locker room.

Pelican striker Brandon Ingram has called Thomas “the ultimate professional.”

“He just came in and did his job whenever he got into the basketball game, but also on the bench,” Ingram said. “He was giving advice, talking to our younger boys, cheering us on whether or not he came into play. This is also an important part of our team.”
