The Dallas Mavericks set the record for the biggest advantage at the break, placing the LA Clippers in a 50-point hole

LOS ANGELES – The Dallas Mavericks climbed 50 points on the break against the LA Clippers on Sunday, setting the record for the biggest break advantage in NBA history.

Playing without injuries Kawhi Leonard (mouth laceration) and Marcus Morris (knee), the Clippers could not do much in the first half and went 77-27 at the break. The Mavericks’ 50-point lead at the entrance surpassed the previous mark for the biggest advantage at the break – a 47-point lead that the Golden State Warriors had over the Sacramento Kings in November 1991, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

The Mavericks fired 58% from the field and buried nine 3-point innings in the half. Clippers has scored a total of nine field goals and missed 18 of 19 3-point attempts in the half, the worst 3-point field goal score in a single half in 25 seasons, according to ESPN Stats & information.

Paul George scored 13 of Clippers’ 27 points in the half. Only after George hit a jumper with 5:01 left in the second quarter did the Clippers reach 20 points for the game.

The futile effort in the first half came after the Clippers opened their season in an impressive way, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night and then defeating the Nuggets in Denver.
