Raiders looking to replace Rodney Hudson

Yesterday, I heard the Raiders were cutting the Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson. Not so fast. Las Vegas is actually trying to move Hudson through trade first, a source told Josina Anderson (Twitter link).

In a sequel tweet, Anderson notes that there is talk of a transaction involving a “choice of the next day.” A choice from Day 2 would be a pretty nice transport for a player they were about to cut. This was a recent trend in the NFL, because reports said that a player was cut only for the team to try to change him at the last minute, sometimes successfully sometimes not. It was reported that the saints were to cut defensive equipment Malcom Brown, and then they changed it yesterday at the Jags.

The dolphins were ready to cut Kyle van noy, then tried to change it, only to finally release it after finding no participant. Whether Hudson is traded or released, it is still a dramatic overhaul of the Raiders’ offensive line. This move follows the cuts in Las Vegas Gabe Jackson and Richie Incognito and its trade of Trent Brown to New England.

Hudson, 31, was ranked 8th in Pro Football Focus overall last season. The Raiders signed him for a three-year extension, with $ 33.75 MM in 2019. In six seasons with the team, he missed just four total games.

The product of the state of Florida and the former head of the city of Kansas City made the Pro Bowl in three of the last five seasons and was All-Pro in the second team in 2019.
