Production of the iPhone 12 Mini Faces has been reduced due to “much lower” demand than expected

Apple is reducing orders for all iPhones by about 20% compared to its December plans, with the iPhone 12 mini making up the majority of the discount, according to Nikkei Asia. According to previous reports, the publication claims that the demand for the iPhone 12 mini was “much lower than Apple initially expected”.

The report claims that Apple initially aimed to provide components for up to 96 million iPhones in the first half of 2021, including the full range of iPhone 12s and older models such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE, but the company appears to be targeting now the production of about 75 million units in that period. This is still slightly higher than iPhone deliveries in the same period last year, the report adds.

The demand for the iPhone 12 mini has been so lacking in light that Apple has even asked some vendors to temporarily stop building components specifically for the 5.4-inch device, according to Nikkei Asia. Some of the components and parts for the iPhone 12 mini have been reallocated to the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, a source told the publication.

It is believed that Apple continues to see healthy demand for the three state-of-the-art iPhone 12 models, with strong device sales contributing to Apple’s record revenue of $ 111.4 billion, reported in the December quarter.

While demand for the iPhone 12 mini may be lower than Apple initially expected, the company is still expected to launch the so-called iPhone 13 mini this year.
