The mayor of Villalba and the president of the Association of Mayors, Luis Javier Hernández Ortiz, announced today that the 41 associate mayors unanimously decided to apply their own executive order with more restrictions for COVID-19 due to their dissatisfaction with what was announced yesterday by Governor Pedro Pierluisi.
“While we appreciate the governor’s acceptance of some of the recommendations the Association of Mayors of Puerto Rico issued yesterday, we understand that there should be greater restrictions on airports, beaches, rivers, spas, strengthen control of the Executive Order and expand programs and the performance of both the vaccines and the tests for Covid-19, “Hernández explained.
Happiness The executive order implementedbecause the mayors establish that:
- Municipal employees and government offices must switch to virtual mode at those non-essential dawns. Those who are non-essential and unable to work remotely will continue to enjoy the accumulation of compensatory time, as a first instance, or accumulated vacation leave.
- closing the beaches, spas, keys and islands of the mentioned municipalities.
- They will promote which restaurants limits the use of closed rooms and promote the use of outdoor spaces. They will maintain the reduction in commercial units at 30%.
- Retail stores and malls need promoting collection and delivery systems.
- They will not grant exemptions or permits for any type of social activity.
- Cancellation of all municipal activities and the use of public and communal spaces, which promote the crowding of people, understood as festivals, carnivals, tours, retreats, among others.
Business that does not comply with the provisions will be closed for a month.
In addition, they state that they will ask the state government to start a massive vaccination campaign without a time limit (24/7). Ensuring a fair distribution in each municipality and regulating the entry of travelers into the country conditioned by a negative molecular test.
Hernández insisted that the increase in the number of infections, hospitalizations, positivity, new variants and the fact that people lowered their guard with Covid-19 “forces us to strengthen the battle. The mayors listened to the people and the country rises from the municipalities “.
