  • Motorola has released a list of devices that it intends to update to Android 11.
  • All the phones on the list came out either in 2019 or in 2020.

After all the disappointment that 2020 has brought, one might have hoped that a company like Motorola would have tried to end the year with a high mark. But that doesn’t have to be the case. The company has shared plans to update Android 11 and they are no better than anything Motorola has done in recent years.

As you can see from the list below, if you own a Motorola phone that came out before 2019, don’t expect the company to push the latest version of Google’s operating system to your device. More, even if you own a phone Moto from 2019 or 2020, you might wait a while to get anything. Motorola says it will begin launching Android 11 “starting in the coming months, awaiting partner support.” In other words, expect a potentially long wait, especially if you don’t own one of the latest devices on the list, such as the Razr 5G or Edge.

If you happen to own a Motorola One Action that you bought in North America, you’re out of luck. Motorola intends to update the Latin American and European versions of this phone to Android 11, as it is included in the Google One Android program in those places. Even by Motorola’s dim light support standards, this is not a great demonstration for the company.

Fortunately, update lists like the one above may become less frequent in the future. Google and Qualcomm recently announced a partnership to provide four years of support for future Snapdragon devices. This commitment will help low-end and mid-range devices the most.
