Lúgaro assures that machismo in politics has become crude

Before announcing her departure from Puerto Rico’s electoral policy, lawyer Alexandra Lúgaro explained her reasons for leaving, criticizing the machismo that exists in her and talking about her future work.

In an interview with Radio Isla, the former candidate for governor for the Citizen Victory Movement spoke about how difficult it is to fit into the country’s politics, coming up with a different mindset and confronting power structures.

“It is extremely difficult to enter politics, but even more so if you are a woman, if you are young, if you are free to express your mind and if you are willing to face the structures that have brought us here for years. “, He commented.

For the former independent candidate for government and who obtained 11% of the electoral support, “that machismo became raw because it was normalized, you just have to enter Twitter and a simple search to see the misogenesis”.

Regarding the reasons for her departure from politics, the lawyer spoke about the different reasons that led her to make this decision, ranging from her daughter to the economic reality she has lived in the last six years, where she says she did not earned the source of income.

“I can’t deny that this is a factor (his daughter) that somehow influences the decision, but this is not the one that gives her the most weight. My family supported me during this process, my family knows why I got involved in electoral politics and I know how dirty electoral politics can be and it is unfortunate that so young my daughter had to see how we live in a country in There are no professional or ethical lines, these lines intersect to attack what is most precious to a human being, if that human being is preparing to face special interests and in this sense my daughter understood it, my family understood it and I tried to keep that core protected with anything and that is a big weight. Also, without a doubt, the economic part, we looked for six years to continue to help the country and during this process, since someone does not earn income, we had to make countless arrangements, “he said.

Without being interested in youth politics, the former candidate for government expressed her desire that the spaces she went through be occupied by other people. “I personally think it’s time to be able to contribute from other spaces to change the things I want to have a type of movement,” he said.

Currently, the graduate commented that she has several job offers and will soon announce where she will go, although she ruled out any unelected position in government.

Lúgaro was an independent candidate for government in the 2016 elections and then ran for the same office in 2020 in the Victoria Ciudadana Movement.
