Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks Thursday in a virtual chat hosted by Princeton University’s Bendheim Center for Finance.
The discussion comes at a crucial time for the Federal Reserve, which took up its current policy in December until it sees substantial progress towards its inflation and employment targets.
As part of its response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Fed has reduced its short-term benchmark lending rate to almost zero and is buying at least $ 120 billion in bonds each month. In recent speeches, some Fed officials said they see the economy recovering strongly this year, possibly pushing for the removal of some of the accommodation.
