Fallen Capitol Police officer William “Billy” Evans was honored Tuesday at the Capitol, the same building he protected two weeks ago. Evans was killed when 25-year-old Noah Green rammed his car into a barricade and then shot at officers with a knife. Senate leader Chuck Schumer recalled Evans as a prankster and “the one you’d like to be stationed with on a lazy summer day on the northern barricade.” He said Evans’ life mission could be summed up in four words: “How can I help?”
President Joe Biden turned to Evans ‘wife and two young children, Logan and Abigail, and said,’ The time will come, I promise you, now it’s unbelievable that there is a memory, a scent, a scene, a circumstance is. … when you have that memory and you smile before you get a tear in your eyes. As Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the Evans kids that “so many now know about your father and know he’s a hero,” Biden came in to pick up a hug that Abigail dropped. “A bigger compliment [does] no one but the President of the United States took care of your toys, ”added Pelosi. Evans is the second Capitol agent to be in custody this year, after Officer Brian Sicknick.
