Cyberpunk 2077 is now (sort of) played on the Nintendo Switch

Despite running pretty terribly on the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, someone has now found a way to make 2077. Cyberpunk playable on Nintendo Switch. And while the thought cyberpunk playing on a switch can make you think it would cause the Nintendo handheld hybrid to almost explode, the way the game is accessible on the platform is not as you would expect.

Coming as Nintendrew, YouTuber found a rather strange solution that results in Nintendo Switch being able to play 2077. Cyberpunk. As you might expect, though, the platform can’t run the game natively for several reasons, so how exactly did it succeed in this phase? Well, in steps Google Stage.

Yes, Nintendrew has essentially broken its switch to allow the installation of Android software. From now on, Google Stage can then be downloaded to the platform, because technically it is now an Android device. The means by which Nintendrew carries this feat are not too complex and could easily be accomplished by you, too, if you have decided to do so.

What is interesting 2077. Cyberpunk running on the Switch in this way is that it still manages to allow players to use Joy-Con or a Nintendo Pro controller to play the game. You don’t have to connect another type of controller to the switch or anything like that. Once the Stage is installed, you can play games through the service, as you would normally do on the Switch.

As for how 2077. Cyberpunk performs on the Switch, well, it’s actually pretty impressive. Again, because this is played through Stage, all the hardware used to run the game is elsewhere, so the Switch itself isn’t based as much on performance. Based on the presented footage of the game in action, it even seems to run at a stable 720p in handheld mode with 1080p output if you connect it to the TV.

Obviously, it is worth noting that if you try to do this for your own switch, there is a small chance that you may interfere with your drive. In addition, if you have a warranty on the console, it may void it instantly. So make sure this is something you really want to do for yourself if you want to give it a try.

There have been a lot of other strange happenings like this that have been discovered in connection with 2077. Cyberpunk since the game was released earlier this month. If you want to check out some of these stories, you can find them in our coverage center right here.
