A zoom button is the holiday gift that everyone needs

The worst part of most Zoom meetings is the end. Not because it’s the time we have to lose our human connection after being isolated for months during the COVID-19 pandemic. The end of a Zoom meeting is the worst, because it’s so hard to finish a call quickly and gracefully.

With a typical call without zooming on a smartphone, remove the phone from your ear and tap the end call button. That’s it.

At a meeting with Zoom, you say goodbye, put your hand on the mouse, find the mouse on the screen, move it in the right direction to the end call button, skip that button in your desperation to leave the meeting as soon as possible , and then click the button, all on video, where anyone still sitting can see the growing despair in your eyes as you go through this process.

Brian Moore, a creative director at Anomaly, took on the task of making leaving Zoom meetings easier. He made a way to use a physical lamp cable that he can pull to instantly leave the meeting. Just look this thing of beauty:

And if this looks like something you want to have for yourself, I have good news for you: Moore has shared all the files you’ll need to do something like this on GitHub.

Now I imagine other ways I could quickly get rid of Zoom meetings. Maybe you destroy a Staples Easy button? Throw a huge switch like what you would see in a horror movie? Or, just like David Zhou, making a way to end the calls after sighing loudly?

The possibilities seem endless here and I hope more people create fun ways to quickly get out of their Zoom calls. Maybe it will be the 2021 trend that replaces a creative background with Zoom.
